KITCHEN MAKE-OVER
Shawn and Jalen Hill live in Cannon Beach, Ore., with their two golden retrievers, Waffles and Noodles. For the past 20 years, they’ve lived in a Portland suburb and decided it was time to fulfill their dream of relocating to a beach house. The time is right, since they are both semi-retired, and can work remotely when necessary.
Shawn, who is 5’ 10”, and Jalen, 6’, are in good health, but since this is their forever home, they want to consider aging-in-place design concepts. Jalen is a passionate cook and spends most of his time in the kitchen, while Shawn is usually on clean-up duty — a self-proclaimed neat freak. They require ample storage for special pans, small appliances and cooking/baking equipment, and plenty of pantry space for exotic spices and a storehouse of foods. Additionally, both like to watch cooking shows and videos in the kitchen.
The couple shares a home office, but when one is on a business call, the other must retreat to the kitchen so neither is disturbed. When they sit at the kitchen table, their biggest complaint is a jumble of messy wires that often don’t reach a convenient outlet or charging station. They wouldn’t object to trading in the table for a functional island that can accommodate guests who watch as Jalen creates a culinary masterpiece.

Based on the clients’ preference and requirements, the space planning was made the best usage of a space, kitchen with long island where can accommodate large parties.
Reserving spaces for their love fur babies, creating individual feeding station and a rest area.
Bi-fold door was added into space for easy access to the patio area, an additional counter space was added by the kitchen counter for more entertaining space.

Added 6” recessed lighting into the most of space. Three clear glass pendant lights were added to the counter space on the right side. Above sink area, a drop down shelving for more storage as they required.
Next to range, 4 of floating shelves was created for easy accessing of daily use equipment with 4 wall sconces lighting on them.
